Fruit and Flowers- a Thanksgiving Tradition

Fruit and Flowers Centerpiece. (As shown $79.)

When I think of Thanksgiving my mind goes to time with family and friends, a large elaborate meal, and of course…decorating the table!

In preparation for this time of year, I always stock the studio with earthy, natural elements that we can incorporate into our designs- wheat, millet, lotus pods, birch branches, cattails, etc. As I was perusing the aisles at my local wholesale showroom, I noticed a section of cornucopia baskets and they brought back memories of working at my mom’s floral business back in the 80’s and how these long horn shaped containers were a Thanksgiving staple. It got me thinking…why did we use those?!, what is the symbolism of a cornucopia?, and how could I create a modern version?

Of course I referenced Wikipedia and here is their explanation: “The cornucopia (from Latin cornu copiae) or horn of plenty is a symbol of abundance and nourishment, commonly a large horn-shaped container overflowing with produce, flowers or nuts. In most of North America, the cornucopia has come to be associated with Thanksgiving and the harvest.”

Cornucopia Centerpiece with succulents, fruit and unique blooms. (As shown $85,  scaled down version starting at $65.)

So here we go, Thanksgiving centerpiece offerings for this year incorporating nuts, fruit and gourds along with beautiful blooms. You can keep the tradition going with a cornucopia basket or opt for a more modern container such as a wooden box or a glass cylinder. Let us know your specifications- we would love to design something special for your holiday table!

This wooden box design makes a great table centerpiece. Gourds, apples and blooms combine for a beautiful fall look. (As shown $65.)

Fall Inspired Designs

When the seasons change and the fresh product available takes a shift, I always feel inspired. Along with shorter days and falling leaves, the autumn season brings an array of brightly colored and highly textural materials. It seems that at this time of year, keeping fresh flowers indoors on the table or at the beside can make even more of an impact on our mood.
